AN EARLY CATCH
Tasked to research why teenagers dropped off from playing cricket, we visited schools across the UK to conduct focus groups, enhancing our research with surveys conducted via social media.
The study which collated the views of over 1000 teenage boys from a cricketing and non-cricketing background, highlighted various issues from ‘the influence of friends’ to feeling the game wasn’t fast or ‘sporty enough’ as reasons why teenage boys did not play or continue to play cricket.
Analysis of the findings resulted in an action plan which enabled the ECB to tackle these underlying reasons from a national, county, club and school perspective.
